No Kings or Queens, the new CD release from the Philadelphia-area based progressive heavy metal band Corporate Mass. This 5-person powerhouse fronted by high intensity female vocals keeps the listener on the edge of their seats. No Kings or Queens has it all. Chain-saw guitars, cannon drums, heart pounding bass runs and the icing on the cake, dynamic vocals. With tracks such as No Humans and When the Reign Comes, the hard-hitting drive is evident. Cuts like Society Hill and Domino Man show the mature writing and arrangement of this fine tuned machine. And the group’s hit Highlander, says that Corporate Mass is a commercial titan. No Kings or Queens has all the components of a high-intensity, action-packed, special effects extravaganza box office hit. Speaking of box office, No Kings or Queens is soon to be a full-length feature production. Corporate Mass is working with Animation Artist David Feltham, whose credits include ABC Sports and the Canadian Main stream. Equipped with state of the art animation and edits that include footage of the band on and off the road, the film tells the story of a female warrior in search of The Mechanism (title of track 14), the only thing that can save the world from utter destruction. A time old tale, but the music is the backdrop for the narration. From beginning to end, No Kings or Queens takes hold and doesn’t let go. There are no stops on this heavy metal ride. Without a doubt, 4 STARS! Steve Derr - American Music. April 1998
Corporate Mass Storms Norway
Philadelphia-area based progressive metal band Corporate Mass has hit the European Airwaves in Norway. Tracks off their recently released CD, No Kings or Queens, have been getting play since early April of this year. As expected, the CD has received overwhelming attention.
“We did not plan for a European release so early,” said John Coonan, one of Corporate Mass’ guitar players, “but we will take what we can get”. The Norway radio station Topp Radio OSLO FM 101.1 which hosts the show High Voltage, enjoyed the band’s material so much that they scheduled a telephone interview with Corporate Mass on Tuesday July 7, 1998. The interview was conducted by Norway DJ favorite Curt Sigurdsen, host of the top-rated heavy metal broadcast.
The interview started out with a track from the CD: Domino Man. As the talks unfolded the band elaborated on the origin of this particular cut. “The song was originally done in the late 1980s,” stated Mick Michaels, The Mass’ other guitarist, “We liked it so much that we wanted to revive what we had and bring it up to today’s listening standards”. The band continued relating their feelings and attitudes toward writing music and where they receive their inspiration. “We are huge fans of Judas Priest, Queensryche and Dream Theater,” said Dave Caudill, Corporate Mass’ drummer. “Our music isn’t like theirs but our writing philosophies are similar,” adds Jim Lepera, bass player for The Mass. “We believe there is something for everyone with this CD,” he continues. And something for everyone indeed. The band announced their current talks with Rysher Entertainment for music for the upcoming Highlander Raven TV series soundtrack. “We are big fans of the show ands always wanted to do something for it,” said Michaels. “The new show is scheduled for the fall, so we will see what happens,” he adds. For those of you who don’t own a copy of No Kings or Queens, Corporate Mass has a track that depicts the life of an immortal, cleverly titled Highlander. Thus the interview ended with the aforementioned cut and the band signed off, but not without doing a few radio spots (jingles) for the Norway medium. Pamela Dane July 1998
RHINO VIRUS
Fresh off the heels of their latest CD release, ”No Kings or Queens”. The progressive metal band Corporate Mass is at it again. This time with an all instrumental for an up coming CD Rohm. The instrumental CD entitled “Rhino Virus”, contains 10 specially composed and arranged tracks that cover the game’s spirit and soul. Unlike like their well defined “No Kings or Queens”, “Rhino Virus” shows a different side of the band, a much looser feel and sharper edge. “We wanted to experiment with different recording techniques as well as playing styles,” said James Lepera, the band’s bassist. “This is completely different from our normal approach to composing” added David Caudill, Corporate Mass’ drummer.
“Rhino Virus” will be available as a stand-alone audio CD as well, for those fans that have not yet moved into the computer age.
Until “Rhino Virus’” official release we have “No Kings or Queens”. The band has already begun work for a new CD and plans for an up coming tour later this year. What will they do next? Keep listening! Sean Moore October 1998
